Our Mission

The mission of Ballet Wolcott, Inc. is to foster healthy development and creativity in our students by providing them with quality dance education and the opportunity to become involved in the creative process in a nurturing and disciplined environment.

Our History

The Ballet Wolcott began as a collaboration between three women, Helene Nilsen, Brandy Ofciarcik-Perez, and Avi Waring. Helene and Avi met while dancing with June Gorton and the Wolcott Children’s Ballet Company in the 1980’s at the Wolcott Town Hall and so felt a need to give back to the area where their dance training began. Brandy trained and danced in Pennsylvania and Maryland. When she moved to Vermont, she met Helene and Avi and knew that she wanted to join these women in sharing dance with the community. All three love dancing as well as teaching dance and want to offer affordable quality dance education in the rural setting of Wolcott. It began with a conversation; and, pretty soon, they were posting flyers and beginning their first classes in the fall of 2007. We believe that access to creativity and progression through technical training of dance are among the greatest ways for children to learn problem solving and develop healthy self esteem.
In the fall of 2016, board members of Ballet Wolcott, Inc. organized and developed a new non-profit organization to continue inspiring and enriching Wolcott and its surrounding communities.

Youth Company

Through the Youth Company, Ballet Wolcott continues to offer creativity and community through dance by providing young, dedicated dancers the opportunity to enrich their lives by learning in a positive and supportive atmosphere. Led by the directors and faculty of Ballet Wolcott, our Youth Company was created for dedicated dancers who would like to dance and perform outside of regular classes and performances. Dancers in the Youth Company will have the opportunity to dance in shows in the community as well as perform as soloists, principal dancers, and corps de ballet in Ballet Wolcott's performances.

Dancers who want to join the Youth Company should have a hunger to dance and a willingness to try a variety of forms of dance. While ballet remains the heart of our training, dancers will have the opportunity to learn and perform other genres of dance such as jazz, lyrical, tap, modern, hip hop and ethnic dances for The Nutcracker, Spring Performance, and community engagements.  By featuring their talents within the community, dancers can truly shine and share their love of dance and performing with others.

Being a member of a dance company comes with some responsibility.
